The usual path before surgery

Assessment starts with listening: when the symptom began, what makes it worse, which operations you have had, which medicines you take and what other illnesses you have.

Then comes the examination and, if needed, an ultrasound, a blood test or other imaging. Each result is read together with the examination, not on its own.

Not everyone needs surgery. If an operation is needed, the reason, the options and the risks and benefits of each are explained, and the plan for care and follow-up afterwards is made clear.
